The Coast to the Northeast of Pickering is known as The Heritage Coast and is an extremely beautiful and rugged stretch of nature within half an hour's drive. Due north of Hungate is the sailing town of Whitby, the adopted home of Captain Cook and his gateway to the seas. His statue stands on the west cliff and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum is located in his old house on Grape Lane. Also worth seeing in Whitby are Whitby Abbey, The Enamel Workshop and W.Hammond - The original Whitby Jet shop. Heading down the coast you arrive at the wonderful holiday town ofScarborough. Holiday attractions here include the Scarborough Sea Life & Marine Sanctuary and the Kinderland Fun Park. Alternatively, if you prefer a little less action then Scarborough Castle orThe Stained Glass Centre may be more to your liking. As you head further on you'll find the spectacular Bempton Cliffs Nature Reserve - home to over 200,000 nesting seabirds and a very popular national destination for birdwatchers too. Nature lovers will also appreciate the opportunity to visit the Staintondale Shire Horse Farm, Wellington Lodge Llama Treking and , The Grainary Wildlife Farm. Other pastimes offered in the area include Wykeham Lakes Trout Fishing and of historical interest The Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum and Saltburn Inclined Tramway.
